“I Want it Back” Says Ross

February 13, 2015

Arriving at Manfeild Autocourse this weekend for the fifth round of the NZV8 Touring Cars 2014-15 season, defending champion Nick Ross remembers only too clearly how he raced door to door and bumper to bumper while competing fiercely for the much coveted Jason Richards Memorial Trophy there last season.

An incredibly close contest between himself and Jason Bargwanna throughout the trophy race this time last year resulted in the pair running alongside each other for nearly half a lap of the three kilometre circuit in Feilding.

After Ross completed his compulsory pitstop he flew out of pitlane while the Australian came down the main straight with the pair meeting at turn one and continuing to battle aggressively to the race’s end while the crowd cheered on.

Ross walked away from Taupo Motorsport Park with the trophy in 2013 but this time it was Bargwanna’s turn when he eventually pipped the Cambridge driver at the line with the smallest of gaps at 0.997of a second.

Ross believes it to be his turn this year and will be focused on keeping the trophy in New Zealand this time around.

“I want it back! After such a close contest last year I want it back this time.” said Ross.

Ross and the Concept Motorsport team are currently in second place in the points and have been performing well throughout the season in the new Total Lubricants Nissan Altima.

A race win in the opening round and then again last month at Teretonga Park are testament to the expertise and determination of the team who must work continually to push the new car to its limits.

The team are definitely making progress with the performance of the Nissan and are optimistic for more race wins from the remaining six races.

This weekend at Manfeild is the penultimate round of the NZV8 Touring Cars with the final being held at Pukekohe Park Raceway in April so race wins are the focus of team and driver?

“We are very much looking forward to this weekend and have made some changes to the car. After such a promising showing at Teretonga we hope to go one better and win the round.” said Ross.

There will be three NZV8 Touring Cars races over the weekend with the third race held on Sunday afternoon being their main event competing for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy.

The memorial race is longest of the weekend at 20 laps and includes a mandatory pitstop for the TLX category cars where at least one wheel must be changed.

The stop not only brings each crew into play where they become integral in the result where a race can be won or easily lost in the pitlane, but it also opens up an opportunity for the slower TL category cars to mix it up with the TLX cars and perhaps beat them to the chequered flag.

This weekend at Manfeild, Concept Motorsport will also partner with James McLaughlin Motorsport to run their Holden Commodore TLX for driver James McLaughlin.

McLaughlin, who will compete the car for the next two rounds, was competing in the TL category last season and the first half of this one and is planning to campaign a full 2015-16 season in the TLX category.

The NZV8 Touring Cars will test today but the real action gets underway with their qualifying session on tomorrow morning at 11.51am followed by race one at 3.45pm.

On Sunday race two is at 11.04 with the excitement set to overload when the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy is contested in the afternoon at 2.22pm.
